Alan Gilbert Announces First Ever Sabbatical

By Francisco Salazar

Alan Gilbert has announced that he is taking his first-ever sabbatical.

The conductor took to social media and said, “I love what I do and I’ve always love staying busy. But now, having this stretch of unstructured time in front of me is unbelievably liberating and gratifying. I’ll miss my orchestra and beloved public but I plan to come back with renewed energy and can’t wait to see you again in the fall.”

The announcement comes after the conductor renewed his contract with the Royal Swedish Opera until 2029.

The conductor is set to return to the podium in June for a performance at the Royal Swedish Opera and in the summer he joins the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival.
