AGMA Announces New Partnership with Stage Directors and Choreographers Society
By David SalazarThe American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) is joining forces with the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC) in a new partnership.
The goal is for the two unions to work together to strengthen their partnership; the two organizations first partnered in 2020 when they worked on the Expert Medical Advisory Panel for the AGMA/SDC Return to Stage and Performing Arts Playbook.
Per the new agreement, members in good standing of AGMA and SDC who want to join the other union will be allowed a 50 percent discount on the initiation fee. The first director to take advantage of this new agreement is Robert O’Hara, who will lead a new production of “X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X” at the Metropolitan Opera, Detroit Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opera Omaha, and Seattle Opera.
“AGMA and SDC have been working together for quite some time,” said Sam Wheeler, National Executive Director, AGMA, in an official press statement. “AGMA and SDC share members, workplaces, and a vital interest in the arts in the United States. This agreement expands our partnership and provides direct benefits of AGMA and SDC’s collaboration to our members. We are so excited to see where this dynamic partnership takes us next.”
