Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Chorus Member Tests Positive for COVID-19

The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia has confirmed that an artist from the chorus has tested positive for COVID-19.

As a result, following the doctors and the ASL’s orders, the entire chorus must quarantine for 10 days and will not be able to perform in the originally scheduled concerts on Oct. 22, 23, and 24.

The concert has therefore been reprogrammed to include pianist Stefano Bollani performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 as well as Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins and Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite. Sir Antonio Pappano conducts.

The news comes days after Italy recorded a record number of positive coronavirus tests for the fifth day. It also comes days after the Teatro Comunale di Bologna reported a female chorus member tested positive for COVID-19 and the Teatro Petruzzelli was forced to cancel two productions due to a COVID-19 outbreak. The Teatro alla Scala has also had to reprogram a production of “Aida” due to an outbreak amongst the main cast members.
