ABAO Bilbao Ópera Adds New Performances to ‘Il Turco in Italia’

ABAO Bilbao Ópera has announced that it has added more performances to its production of Rossini’s “Il Turco in Italia” due to new government regulations.

New government restrictions announced on Oct. 17, 2020, and pending publication of the order stated that theaters could only present operas with a maximum seating capacity of 400 audience members.

This reduction from a previous order, which allowed 600 spectators, necessitated the addition of three extra performances to accommodate ticket buyers. The new showcases will take place on Oct. 24, 26, and 30, bringing the total number of performances for the run to nine, as opposed to the original four scheduled shows.

The opera will star Paolo Bordogna in the role of Selim, Sabina Puértolas as Fiorilla, David Alegret as Don Narciso, Renato Girolami in the role of Don Geronio, Pietro Spagnoli in the role of Prosdocimo, Marina Viotti as Zaida, and Moisés Marín as Albazar.

Christophe Rousset will conduct the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa in the production by Emilio Sagi. The performance will feature the Coro de Ópera de Bilbao.

The production was co-produced with the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Ópera de Oviedo, and Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile.

The run of “Il Turco in Italia” at the ABAO Bilbao Ópera begins on Oct. 21, 2020, and is set to run until Nov. 2, 2020.
