The Canadian Opera Company has announced that the late soprano Erin Wall will be honored at this year’s Opera Canada Ruby Awards.

The company noted that “Erin was a passionate supporter of young artist development. Following her passing in 2020, the Erin Wall Tribute Fund was established to keep her legacy alive through continued support for emerging opera artists.”

The Opera Canada Awards, also known as The Rubies, were established in 2000 and recognized and honor outstanding individual achievements on stage and behind the scenes. The first recipients included Maureen Forrester, Stuart Hamilton, and John Cook.

Wall passed away on Oct. 8, 2020 from complications from metastatic breast cancer. The soprano was recognized around the world having performed at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, the Atlanta Opera, Arizona Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Calgary Opera, Canadian Opera Company, and Wiener Staatsoper.
