Opera AACC to Present ‘Dead Man Walking’
By David SalazarMaryland’s Opera AACC will present “Dead Man Walking” this March.
For three performances, Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally’s famed work will get a showcase at Anne Arundel Community College with Douglas Brandt Byerly directing and Quinton Folks conducting.
The opera stars Mairin Srygley as Sister Helen Prejean and Michael Pistorio as Joseph de Rocher.
“Heggie’s interpretation of ‘Dead Man Walking’ is an opportunity to feel,” Srygley said per an official press release. “That’s especially important now, when many of us may want to check out from the overwhelm of life and politics. This show can help us break out of that. It facilitates true expression of feelings in the safety and community of theatre, taking you through the whole wheel of human emotions… not only sorrow and grief, but also joy, fear, vulnerability, confusion, disdain, anger, tenderness, comfort, love and even laughter.”
The March 13 performance kicks off at 7 p.m. while the March 15 one starts at 2 p.m. The final showcase takes place on March 16 at 3 p.m. local time.
