
Anthony Davis’ ‘Amistad’ to Tour NYC & Connecticut This Summer
By David SalazarAnthony Davis and Thulani Davis’ “Amistad” is set to go on tour this June.
The opera, which retells the story of the mutiny led by Joseph Cinqué, will get showcases with Connecticut Lyric Opera, Harlem Opera, and Discovering Amistad, with the National Endowment for the Arts providing support for the work.
The tour commences on June 13 at the Church of the Intercession in Harlem before heading to Customs Hour Pier in New London, CT on June 14. On June 20, Hartford’s Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art will be the site of the production. The tour ends the next day at the United Church on the Green in New Haven.
The opera stars Antonio Watts, Omar Bowey, Brian McQueen, Thomas Balfour Austin, Victoria Davis, and Patric Eaton. Sheree Spencer directs, and Kyle Walker accompanies on the piano.
