Soprano Mercedes Gancedo and pianist Julius Drake are set to present “La voix humaine,” by Francis Poulenc and Jean Cocteau.

The rarely performed 40-minute, one-woman opera depicts a real-time phone conversation – the last of a heartbroken and desperate woman with her lover, who is leaving her for someone else. Marc Busquets provides stage direction.

“La voix humaine” will be sung in French. English translation will be provided.

This performance is scheduled for March 6, at 89 Reade in Tribeca, NYC.

Gancedo is an Argentine soprano who is set to appear in productions of “Le Nozze di Figaro” with the Opéra de Oviedo. Later in the year, she appears in “I lombardi alla prima crociata” at the Teatro Real in Madrid. In 2024, the soprano performed at the Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico de Mérida, the Abu Dhabi Festival, the Palau de la Música Catalana, and the Teatro Real de Madrid, among others.
