Wiener Staatsoper Announces Cast Change for ‘Norma’
By Francisco SalazarThe Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its March 3, 2025 performance of “Norma.”
The company said that Freddie De Tommaso will sing the role of Pollione replacing Juan Diego Flórez, who is ill.
Flórez took to social media and said, “While warming up this morning, I felt that something wasn’t quite right. I went to see my doctor, and unfortunately, I’ve been diagnosed with a viral tracheitis. On this advice, I won’t be able to perform tonight at the Wiener Staatsoper. I wish my wonderful colleagues all the best for tonight’s show. I hope to recover as soon as possible and be back on stage for the next performances. Thank you for your support and understanding.”
De Tommaso is currently performing at the Theater an der Wien in another “Norma” production. He is set to appear in the Wiener Staatsoper’s production in the spring alongside Lidia Fridman.
The tenor joins a cast that includes Ildebrando D’Arcangelo, Federica Lombardi, and Vasilisa Berzhanskaya. Michele Mariotti conducts.
