On Dec. 17, the Teatro Mayor Julio Santo Domingo in Bogota will present a new production of “Tosca” with an international cast and international conductor. Among the cast members is British tenor Adam Smith who will sing the role of Cavaradossi.

Smith will make his debut at the prestigious Colombian house in a role he debuted earlier this year at the Austin Opera. Speaking about his first Cavaradossi, critics raved that, “Adam Smith’s tenor soared to the heights of the surrounding track, while he behaved with upright fidelity and heroism as the painter Cavaradossi.”

This season marks a big one for Smith in his international career as his Colombian debut is his second of the year following his first shows in Glyndebourne’s “Fidelio.” He will also sing at La Monnaie and at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis for the first time.

A winner of the First Prize, Audience Prize, Critics’ Prize, and the prize for The Best Tenor at the 2015 Ferruccio Tagliavini International Singing Competition in Austria and a Third Prize winner at in the Ada Sari International Singing Competition in Poland, Smith has slowly been building his career by performing at the Seattle Opera, Opera Vlaanderen, Tulsa Opera, and the Scottish National Opera.
