This week the Dallas Opera is set to open its production of Leoš Janáček’s “The Cunning Little Vixen,” directed by Barrie Kosky and in co-production with the Bayerische Staatsoper and Gran Teatre del Liceu. The production will feature several rising stars, including Mirjam Mesak.
Mesak, who is an ensemble member of the Bayerische Staatsoper and a winner of the Bavarian Art Prize, will make her role debut as the Vixen and her house debut in Dallas. Over the years, she has sung a variety of repertoire including music by Wagner, Puccini, Humperdinck, Weber, Beethoven, Handel, and Gounod. She has also performed Czech repertoire including the music of Dvořák.
For her portrayals Mesak has been praised for her “Charming” characters, “her lyrical soprano voice” which “radiates” and “her silvery voice and acting.” Now as the Vixen she will bring her vocal qualities in her American debut.
For those not in Dallas, the soprano will return to the states for the Santa Fe Opera and in the summer, she will also make her Grange Festival debut.
