New York-based Opera Hispánica has announced its 2021-22 season.

The season commences with a “Kick-off Soirée” at the Consulate of Argentina. The showcase will celebrate Piazzolla’s 100^th birthday with performances by bandoneón player Rodolfo Zanetti, baritone Gustavo Feulien, and pianist Jorge Parodi. There will also be guest artists from Opera Hispánica Elenco, the organization’s young artist program.

Performance Date: Nov. 4, 2021

Next up is a double bill featuring “Oblivion” and “El Amor Brujo” in collaboration with Teatro Grattacielo. The showcase will be conducted by Jorge Parodi and will be directed by Malena Dayen. The showcase will star Nancy Fabiola Herrera and Gustavo Feulien as well as bandoneon player Rodolfo Zanetti and bass player Pedro Giraudo.

Performance Date: Nov. 13, 2021

Next up is “Buenos Aires, Then and Now” which will feature music by Guastavino, Ginastera, López, Buchardo, and Piazzolla. The showcase will be presented in collaboration with the New York Festival of Songs and will star the likes of Brian James Myer, Raquel González, and Steven Blier.

Performance Date: Feb. 15, 2022

Chilean soprano Verónica Villarroel will perform in a recital entitled “Y Volveré.” She will perform boleros and songs from South America alongside Maribel Villarroel, Flamenco dancer Sonia Olla, and cantaor Ismael Fernández.

Performance Date: March 2022 

The season draws to a close with the American premiere of Diego Sánchez Hasse’s “Ñomongeta,” the first opera in Guarani. The work is presented in collaboration with the Americas Society and the Smithsonian National Museum of American Indian. The work will star tenor Jose Mongelós.
