The Festival de Granada has announced its 2021 season.

For the purposes of this article, we will focus solely on vocal and operatic performances.

Mezzo-soprano Gloria Oya headlines a benefit concert for the Asociación pro Inteligencia Límite y Asociación Síndrome de Down de Granada. The concert is entitled “Mujeres de Lorca y dos canciones de amor.”

Performance Date: June 19, 2021

Florian Boesch and pianist Malcolm Martineau will perform as part of the “Lied en la Alhambra” series. The duo will perform Schubert’s “Schwanengesang.”

Tenor Jan Schmitz Marcó sings and performs on the flute alongside pianist Rosa María Pérez as they take on music by Schubert.

Performance Date: June 23, 2021

Baritone Christian Gerhaher and pianist Gerold Hubert perform Schubert’s “Abendröthe.”

Performance Date: June 27, 2021

Purcell’s “The Fairy Queen” will be performed by the Academia Barroca del Festival de Granada and the Coro de la Questa Ciudad de Granada. Rita Cosentino directs while Aarón Zapico conducts.

The Coro Infantil “Elena Peinado” joins forces with the Coro Femenino Ciudad de la Alhambra and pianist Ixchel Sobel as they take on music by by a wide range of composers.

Performance Date: July 2, 2021

The Orquesta Nacional de España performs music by Manuel de Falla. Singer María Toledo and pianist Josep Colom will be the soloists on the concert conducted by David Afkham.

Matthias Goerne and Alexander Schmalcz perform Schubert’s “Die schöne Müllerin.”

Performance Date: July 7, 2021

Soprano Anna Caterina Antonacci joins forces with Forma Antiqva and conductor Aarón Zapico for “an imaginary opera” with a prologue and five acts featuring music by Monteverdi, Strozzi, Merula, Falconieri, and Frescobaldi, among others.

Performance Date: July 8, 2021

Countertenor Carlos Mena joins Concerto 1700 in a concert featuring music by Illana, Corelli, Torres, Bononcini, and Literes.

Performance Date: July 11, 2021

The festival will stream Verdi’s “La Traviata” in a production by Sir David McVicar.
