The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced that it will broadcast the production of Wagner’s rarely performed “Rienzi, der Letzte der Tribunen.”

The production of Philipp Stölzl premiered at the Berlin’s largest opera house on January 24, 2010. The cast includes soprano Camilla Nylund as Irene, mezzo-soprano Kate Aldrich in the role of Adriano, and heldentenor Torsten Kerl in the title role. Cast is rounded with Ante Jerkunica, Krzysztof Szumański, Lenus Carlson, Clemens Bieber, and Stephen Bronk.

Sebastian Lang-Lessing conducts the Deutsche Oper Berlin Orchestra. Mara Kurotschka is the co-director. Set design is by Ulrike Siegrist and Philipp Stölzl. William Spaulding is the Chorus Master.

Rienzi” has always been considered a rare treat for every true Wagnerian. The composer’s poem is based on the novel “Rienzi: The Last of the Roman Tribunes” by Edward George Bulwer-Lytton.

The Deutsche Oper Berlin is currently closed until further notice. The opera house announced its participation in The Testing Pilot Project of the Senate of Berlin with the production of Zandonai’s “Francesca da Rimini” starring Sara Jakubiak and Jonathan Tetelman but that performance will be rescheduled due to the new lockdown in Germany.

The opera will be available for viewing from April 1 at 3 p.m. CET until April 4 at 3 p.m. CET. You can watch it here.
