J’Nai Bridges, Russell Thomas, Lawrence Brownlee Headline LA Opera’s ‘Lift Every Voice’ Online Conversation

Los Angeles Opera has announced that it will be altering its LAO At Home schedule this week to make way for an important conversation on racial injustice in the opera world.

On Friday, June 5, 2020, mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges, tenor Lawrence Brownlee, tenor Russell Thomas, soprano Karen Slack, soprano Julia Bullock, and bass Morris Robinson will come together to have a discussion on racial disparity and inequality in the opera world.The conversation, which kicks off at 3 p.m. EDT / Noon PT, will be showcased on the company’s Facebook page.

Robinson, Thomas, Slack, and Brownlee recently appeared on a panel discussion hosted by Lisette Oropesa during her masterclasses.

Meanwhile, the LA Opera has also postponed several other events scheduled for this week. A June 5 recital by soprano Erica Petrocelli and pianist Louis Lohraseb, which was set to take place on June 5 will be rescheduled, while the Great Opera Choruses concert will be moved from its June 7 date to June 28 at 3 p.m. PT.
