Zachary James, Vanessa Becerra & Troy Cook Headline Virginia Opera’s 2020-21 Season

The Virginia Opera has announced its 2020-21 season featuring four operas. Here is a look at the season.

Adam Turner conducts Verdi’s Rigoletto with Stephanie Havey directing. The cast will include Grant Youngblood in the title role, Alisa Jordheim as Gilda, Matthew Vickers as The Duke of Mantua, Joseph Barron as Sparafucile, and Leah Heater as Maddalena.

Performance Dates: Oct. 2-18, 2020

The second production of the season will be “The Pirates of Penzance” by Gilbert and Sullivan.” Adam Turner conducts the production by Kyle Lang. Andrew Wilkowske, Zachary James, David Blalock, Jeni Houser, and Margaret Gawrysiak star in the production.

Performance Dates: Nov. 13-Dec. 5, 2020

Troy Cook, Jessica E. Jones, Annie Rosen, and John Pickle star in Jennifer Higdon’s acclaimed opera “Cold Mountain.” Adam Turner conducts the Virginia premiere directed by Keturah Stickann.

Performance Dates: Feb. 5-21, 2021

Federico De Michelis, Vanessa Becerra, and Richard Ollarsaba star in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with Adam Turner conducting and Lawrence Edelson directing.

Performance Dates: March 12-28, 2021
