Skylark Opera Theatre Announces Its 2019 Season

By Francisco Salazar

The Skylark Opera Theatre has announced its 2019 season featuring two very different works.

Here is a glance at what to expect.

Productions

The first production of the season will be Mozart’s “Così Fan Tutte” directed by directed by Bob Neu and will be set in the present day.  The work will be presented throughout the Historic Mound Theater.

“‘Così Fan Tutte’ is often written off as an opera that is too misogynistic to be effective in our current time. Despite its fantastic score, it’s not often produced. We at Skylark Opera think this masterpiece can withstand being viewed through a contemporary lens. And when this happens the traditional roles of the sexes are upended, and this proves to be a very timely work with an empowering message for both men and women,” noted Neu in a press release.

Performance Dates: March 22-31, 2019

The second production of the season will be “The Most Happy Fella.” The piece is filled with sweeping ballads, intense dramatic arias, and tuneful, splashy Broadway-style numbers.

Bob Neu will direct the work which he said “is everyone’s favorite score of a musical they’ve NEVER seen. No one produces this masterpiece! We aim to rectify that with a moving and beautiful production that celebrates this incredible music and doesn’t shy away from the provocative plot.”
