Killer Queen Opera to Launch Season with ‘The Operatic World’s Fair’

By David Salazar

Killer Queen Opera will open its 2026-27 season with a fundraising gala titled “The Operatic World’s Fair” on Friday, Nov. 6, at Ideal Glass Atelier in Manhattan’s East Village.

The evening is modeled on the international expositions of the past and imagines what a World’s Fair devoted to opera might look like in New York City. The program draws on music by composers from around the world and presents works ranging from established repertoire to new pieces.

Performers from the company’s roster include sopranos Karina Camile Parker, Trysten Reynolds, and Andrea Wozniak; mezzo-sopranos Colleen Allard, Seiko Elmore, Eugenia Forteza, and Christina Swanson; and baritones Lucas Bouk and Yun-Jui Hsieh. Pianist Steven Smith will also perform.

The repertoire includes music from “Stained Glass” by Crouch and Kaufman; “Hindsight” and “Madam” by F. Jarrar and Goodwin; and Poulenc’s “La voix humaine.” The program also features art songs and traditional folk music, along with works by composers including Monteverdi and Villa-Lobos.

Killer Queen Opera is a women-led company based in New York City. It produces work that centers women, BIPOC artists and the LGBTQ+ community, and it often focuses on the stories of people written out of history. The company is led by co-founders and co-artistic directors Christina Swanson and Karina Camile Parker.
