Killer Queen Opera to Present Inaugural Patricia Ellen Singing Artist Residency Concert

By David Salazar

Killer Queen Opera will present the inaugural concert of the Patricia Ellen Singing Artist Residency on April 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church of Brooklyn.

Sopranista Jay St. Flono serves as the program’s first artist-in-residence.

Titled “Waters and Airs: The Beautiful Voice,” the program is an autobiographical song recital tracing St. Flono’s journey as an artist. Organized into sections named for pivotal moments in the singer’s development, the evening draws on repertoire chosen to reflect a range of emotional states, from sorrow and fear to serenity and jubilation.

A talkback with the audience will follow the musical program.

St. Flono is a classical singer, actor, librettist, and author from Brooklyn. They have performed with New York City Opera, appeared with The Unsung Collective at Lincoln Center, and served as a 2019–2021 Librettist Fellow with Composers and the Voice at American Opera Projects.

Dmitriy Glivinskiy, Music Director and vocal coach for the opera department at the University of Connecticut,  joins St. Flono at the piano.

The Patricia Ellen Singing Artist Residency is named for Patricia Ellen Moore-Turner, St. Flono’s late mother, a Brooklyn-born classically trained singer and actress and member of the National Association of Negro Musicians.
