Opéra National de Paris Announces Final Season of ‘L’Opéra en Guyane’ Outreach Program
By David SalazarThe Opéra national de Paris has announced that “L’Opéra en Guyane,” its outreach program in French Guiana, will end after its fifth and final season in 2026-27.
The program was created as a territorial cultural cooperation to make the missions of the Opéra national de Paris accessible across French Guiana. Over its run it has built partnerships in Cayenne, Rémire-Montjoly, Matoury, Kourou, Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, Maripasoula, Papaïchton and, more recently, Camopi.
The final season is split into two sessions. The first, in October 2026, centers on dance, with the evening “Une nuit dansée à l’Opéra” performed Oct. 21 to 23 at Les Trois Fleuves in Cayenne by Paris Opera Ballet étoiles and dancers. Workshops will run from Oct. 24 to 29 in Cayenne, Kourou, Rémire-Montjoly and Matoury, including choral singing sessions led by Morgan Jourdain, choirmaster of ADO – Maîtrise de l’Opéra de Paris.
The second session, in April 2027, is devoted to lyric singing. Artists in residence at the Academy will perform in “Une nuit chantée à l’Opéra,” a concert built around Mozart’s “Così fan tutte,” on April 9 and 10 at Trois Fleuves – l’EnCRe in Cayenne. Elisabeth Pallas of the Opéra national de Paris Orchestra will lead violin workshops from April 7 to 10.
The Opéra national de Paris will maintain its relationships with cultural partners in French Guiana after the program ends, notably the Conservatoire de Musique, Danse et Théâtre de Guyane. New collaborations are in development with these latter organizations.
