A federal court has ruled that President Donald Trump cannot put his name on the Kennedy Center.

Judge Christopher Cooper of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ruled on Sept. 15 that the board of the Kennedy Center cannot put Trump’s name in other places on the building and its grounds.

In his decision Cooper said, “Simply put, Defendants cannot install memorials for President Trump or anyone or anything else at the Kennedy Center without Congress’s blessing. The board resolution bucks a federal court order and a statute Congress enacted.”

The ruling comes days after the Kennedy Center leadership said that the performing arts center is on teh brink of bankruptcy and would be forced to close on Sept. 15. The leadership also noted that the institution faces “certain fiscal collapse” unless the president’s name is added back to its facade.

It also comes days after a portion of the Kennedy Center’s Grand Foyer collapsed after a storm and leadership claimed that the collapse was “Another warning we can’t ignore…” and “Chairman President Trump has been right: America’s cultural center needs to close, renovate, and be restored—now.”

Trump also endorsed the sentiment on Truth social stating, “The Board of the Kennedy Center has strongly voted to save it, and they know I’m the only one who can do so, because I have the ability to raise the money, and the ability to construct — that few others have. I also have the strength and power of the Presidency, which will be needed do what must be done, and give it a strong shot at Greatness again!”

He added, “A very hostile and conflicted Judge (What else is new?) seems like he won’t let that happen, in which case, unfortunately, the Building is destined to doom. Isn’t that too bad? We have already wasted more than 6 months ‘playing around’ in Court. Time is our Enemy!” He added that the Kennedy Center board is meeting again Tuesday: “It will be interesting to see what happens!”

While the President is preoccupied with whether his name gets placed on a building his government has shut down (after alienating or decimating the major cultural and creative organizations that made it function), the U.S. remains in an active war with Iran and the Strait of Hormuz’s status remains uncertain. The price of gas, which is over $4 per gallon, has gone up 40 percent since President Trump launched said war with Iran. Moreover, grocery prices for the average American continue to go up under Trump thanks to his tariffs.
