Opera Idaho to Present ‘Thaïs’ at Historic Egyptian Theatre in Boise

By David Salazar

Opera Idaho will present Massenet’s “Thaïs” for two performances on March 27 and 29, 2026 at the Egyptian Theatre in Boise, Idaho.

The production is directed by Julia Mintzer and conducted by Andy Anderson, with soprano Amy Shoremount-Obra and baritone Daniel Scofield in the leading roles.

The staging features a brand-new orchestral reduction of the score and a newly choreographed pas de deux during the opera’s celebrated “Méditation,” created by Garrett Anderson with dancers from Ballet Idaho. The production will also incorporate a live snake.

Shoremount-Obra is a top prize winner of the 2018 Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition in the Wagner Division and made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 2014 in Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte.”

Meanwhile, Scofield has performed with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Glyndebourne Opera, and the Prague State Opera.
