
OPERA IN THE PARK to Present ‘Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, A Mariachi Opera’ This July
By David SalazarOPERA IN THE PARK Portland will present “Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, A Mariachi Opera” in free outdoor performances this July at Peninsula Park in Portland and Shute Park in Hillsboro.
The presentations mark the opera’s Oregon premiere and the first time”Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, A Mariachi Opera” has been offered free and open to the public anywhere in the world. The performances are expected to reach more than 10,000 audience members across both locations.
“Cruzar la Cara de la Luna” features music by José “Pepe” Martínez, lyrics by Martínez and Leonard Foglia, and a book by Foglia. The opera was commissioned by Houston Grand Opera and premiered there in September 2010, with orchestrations commissioned by Minnesota Opera.
Founded in 2003, OPERA IN THE PARK Portland is a women-led volunteer nonprofit whose mission is to present large-scale opera performances free to the public.
