By David SalazarLyrica Classic will open its second season of its Muffled Voices Festival with the U.S. premiere of Ella Milch-Sheriff’s “Baruch’s Silence” on Nov. 22, 2025 at the Maryland Theatre in Hagerstown, MD.
The chamber opera, based on the Holocaust diary of the composer’s father, received its world premiere at Staatstheater Braunschweig in 2010 and has since been performed in Austria, Israel, and Eastern Europe. The one-act work for eight soloists and chamber orchestra examines inherited trauma and intergenerational silence.
The cast includes mezzo-soprano Hermine Haselböck, baritone Jonathan Patton, and soprano Yulia Petrachuk. Elizaveta Korneeva directs, with Daiana Hoffmann conducting.
A post-show reception will follow the performance.
The Muffled Voices Festival was launched in 2024 and focuses on chamber operas by women composers. Its inaugural season featured 10 works, including premieres and first international presentations of operas by Missy Mazzoli, Anne LeBaron, and Amy Marcy Beach.
