Soprano and activist Gabriella Di Laccio received a major honor on Sept. 30, 2025 at Windsor Castle.
Di Laccio, also the founder of the Donne Foundation, was been officially invested as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) and was recognized for her services to music and gender equality.
She received the honor from HRH The Prince of Wales.
“To receive this recognition as a woman and an artist is a moment of profound pride and emotion,” Di Laccio, who has performed at Wigmore Hall, Southbank Centre, Royal Albert Hall, and St. John Smith’s Square, among other venues, said per an official press release. “This honor is not mine alone: I carry with me the women in my family, the historic women whose music I continue to discover and who inspire me every day, the women of today breaking barriers, and the young women who will build our future. May this honor open doors, break barriers, and inspire more people to believe in their voices and their dreams. And may I continue to serve music and gender equality wherever I go – through my singing and through my actions.”
Di Laccio has previously been named one of the BBC’s 100 Most Inspiring and Influential Women in the World and was featured in The Female Lead: 67 Women Changing the World Today (2021), alongside Nobel Prize winners and global pioneers. Under her leadership, the Donne Foundation has forged partnerships with institutions such as the Royal Albert Hall, Apple Music, Scala Radio, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Among its groundbreaking initiatives is a 26-hour live-streamed concert dedicated entirely to women and non-binary composers, which was officially recognized by Guinness World Records. The Donne Foundation is dedicated to increasing visibility and opportunities for women in music, advancing equity across the classical and contemporary fields.
