While the summer is in full swing, there aren’t all that many companies in production at the present moment. That said, there are still a plethora of solid offerings. Here’s a look at our top picks, in alphabetical order by company.

Rocking Horse Winner / Vinkensport or The Finch Opera – Opera Saratoga

This unique double bill features music by Gareth Williams and David T. Little. The company has made it a staple to present unique new works as part of its festival and this production is set to turn some heads with its mature themes and solid cast. Among those on the production are Christine Suits, Kelly Glyptis, Megan Pachecano, Tyler Nelson, Scott Quinn, and Sean Galligan, among others.

Performances start on Saturday, June 30.

Flight – Des Moines Metro Opera

On Saturday night, Jonathan Dove’s popular work arrives at the Des Moines Metro Opera in a production that will star John Holliday and Audrey Luna, among others. Those two stars alone are set to light up the set, directed by Kristine McIntyre. “Flight” might just be the most exciting opening of the Des Moines Metro Opera.

Candide – Santa Fe Opera

Santa Fe Opera opens its hotly anticipated summer festival with the Bernstein classic on Friday. Brenda Rae, Alek Schrader, Jarrett Ott, Helene Schneiderman, and Kevin Burdette highlight an exciting cast that will be directed by Laurent Pelly and conducted by Harry Bickett.

La Gazzetta – Pacific Opera Project

Rossini’s rarely performed work gets a revival on Friday and Saturday with a  cast that includes Scott Levin, Rachel Policar, Armando Contreras, Kyle Patterson, and Molly Clementz, among others.
