By Francisco Salazar

Lucy Crowe has withdrawn from tonight’s performance of “Rigoletto.”

The Royal Opera House announced that due to illness Crowe would not sing the Jan. 4 performance. As a result, Spanish soprano Sabina Puértolas will take over.

Puértolas made her Royal Opera debut in 2013 as Lisette in “La rondine” and has since returned to sing Despina in “Così fan tutte.” She recently performed Contessa di Folleville in “Il viaggio a Reims” and Marie in “La Fille du régiment” for Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona, Rosina in “Il barbiere di Siviglia” for Seattle Opera, Fiorilla in “Il turco in Italia” for Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Rodelinda for Teatro Real, Madrid, and Gilda at Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile. Later this season returns to the Teatro la Zarzuela for “La Tabernera del Puerto” and Servilia in “La Clemenza dit Tito” at the Théâtre du Capitole.

Puértolas joins Michael Fabiano and Dimitri Platanias who round out the cast. Alexander Joel conducts.
