Nicole Cabell and Alyson Cambridge Team Up with Cedille Records for ‘Sisters in Song’ Album

By Logan Martell

Sopranos Nicole Cabell and Alyson Cambridge have released their new recording “Sisters in Song,” through Cedille Records.

Released on September 21, 2018, “Sisters in Song” features not only opera duets, but specially commissioned arrangements of songs from genres such as folk, classical, and even African-American spirituals. Operatic selections include the “Flower Duet” from Delibes’ “Lakme,” the “Evening Prayer” from Humperdinck’s “Hansel und Gretel,” and more.

Providing the instrumentation was the Lake Forest Symphony, under the baton of conductor Vladimir Kulenovic. The selections were arranged specifically for Cabell and Cambridge’s voices by composer-arranger Joe Clark; selections include “Gabriel Faure’s “Clair de Lune,” Charles Gounod’s “Ave Maria” after Johann Sebastian Bach, and the spirituals “There is a Balm in Gilead,” “Sometimes I feel like a Motherless Child,” and “He’s Got the Whole World in his hands.”

Cabell and Cambridge have described the album as “a dream project” which drew inspiration from the Kathleen Battle and Jessye Norman recording of spirituals released through Cedille Records in the early 90s.
