Jader Bignamini Replaces Leonard Slatkin In ‘Turandot’

By Francisco Salazar

The Detriot Symphony Orchestra’s “Turandot” has announced two cast changes for its June 2018 performances.

First, Jader Bignamini will conduct the performance, stepping in for Leonard Slatkin, who was forced to withdraw from the final three programs of the season to undergo heart surgery. As a result, maestro Slatkin needs three months to fully recover and return to conducting.

Additionally, Bass Morris Robinson will replace Hao Jiang Tian, who must withdraw from performance to address health matters.

“Turandot” is set to star Othalie Graham in the title role, Jonathan Burton as Prince Calaf, and soprano Guanqun Yu as Liù. The opera chorus is set to comprise professional singers from Opera MODO and Audivi as well as the MSU Children’s Choir.

Performances are scheduled for June 8 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, June 10 at 3 p.m. at Orchestra Hall. Sunday’s performance will be live streamed on Facebook and DSO.org/live.
