Anna Netrebko Cancels Last Two ‘Toscas’ At The Teatro Alla Scala

By Francisco Salazar

Anna Netrebko has canceled her final two performances of Puccini’s “Tosca” at the Teatro alla Scala.

The company announced that “due to a sudden illness, Anna Netrebko has to withdraw from Tosca’s performances on Dec. 19 and 22.” As a result, Saioa Hernández will replace Netrebko.

Hernández was already scheduled for three performances of “Tosca” on Jan. 2, 5, and 8, 2020. The soprano is also set to open a new production of “Un Ballo in Maschera” and “La Gioconda” at La Scala. This season she will also sing at the Teatro Regio di Torino and Teatro Massimo di Palermo in productions of “Nabucco.”

Hernández joins Francesco Meli and Luca Salsi in the production by Davide Livermore. Riccardo Chailly conducts.

Netrebko returns to the stage for a New Year’s Eve gala at the Metropolitan Opera.
