Zubin Mehta Cancels Teatro alla Scala Performances

By Francisco Salazar

Zubin Mehta has canceled a Christmas concert and a production at Teatro alla Scala due to health issues.

The Teatro alla Scala noted that Mehta will not conduct the Christmas Concert on Dec. 22 and will be replaced by Spanish conductor Pablo Heras-Casado.

Meanwhile, the six performances of “Salome” in January will be conducted by Axel Kober and Michael Güttler.

Mehta has attempted several returns to La Scala since 2017. In 2017, he was to conduct”Der Rosenkavalier” but was forced to cancel due to the discovery of a tumor. He was set to return in 2021 to conduct “Salome” but canceled due to health reasons and Riccardo Chailly conducted in his stead.

Mehta is now set to return to the Teatro alla Scala in October 2023.
