Zephyra Trio to Mark Manuel De Falla’s 150th Birthday with West Village Recital

By David Salazar

New York-based Zephyra Trio will perform “Falla & Friends: Manuel de Falla” and his Parisian Circle on Sunday, May 10, 2026 at St. John’s in the Village in New York City’s West Village.

The program, which marks the 150th anniversary of the Spanish composer’s birth, explores Falla’s years in Paris from 1907 to 1914, a period during which he forged close relationships with Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and the avant-garde collective Les Apaches. Works by Isaac Albéniz, George Enescu, Philippe Gaubert, Jesús Guridi, Ravel, and Joaquín Turina appear alongside Falla’s own compositions, including the “Siete canciones populares españolas” in a new arrangement for the trio’s distinctive combination of voice, flute, and piano.

Zephyra Trio is comprised of mezzo-soprano Anna Tonna, flutist Laura Falzon, and pianist Olga Gurevich. The ensemble is dedicated to thematic programming drawn from both Western and non-Western traditions.

The concert kicks off at 3 p.m. local time.
