Yulia Matochkina Replaces Lise Davidsen in Verbier Festival’s ‘Cavalleria Rusticana’

The Verbier Festival has announced Lise Davidsen’s replacement for “Cavalleria Rusticana” on July 24, 2025.

The company said that Yulia Matochkina will sign the role of Santuzza replacing Davidsen, who announced that she was pregnant and canceling all engagements after March.

Matochkina is set to perform the Bayerische Staatsoper and Royal Ballet & Opera in productions of “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Il Trovatore.”  She has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Mariinsky Theatre, Semperoper Dresden, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Opernhaus Zurich.

The mezzo is set to join a cast that includes Freddie De Tommaso and Ludovic Tézier. The opera will be performed alongside Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi” with Bryn Terfel, Hanna Schwarz, Ying Fang, and Sungho Kim. Fabio Luisi conducts the Verbier Festival Orchestra.
