YPC Joins Forces with Lester Lynch & Harvard Glee Club for Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
By David SalazarThe Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC) will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 18, 2025, at the Brick Presbyterian Church in New York City.
The showcase will see the ensemble join forces with the Harvard Glee Club and baritone Lester Lynch. YPC’s Francisco J. Núñez will join forces with conductors Maria C. Peña, Caitlin Henning, and Emma H. Sway, as well as pianist Taisiya Pushkar, for the event.
“Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. imagined a world of unity and shared humanity,” said Francisco J. Núñez, artistic director and founder of YPC. “At YPC, we strive every day to bring this vision to life, creating a space where children of all backgrounds can thrive, grow, and feel they belong.”
The program features YPC and the Harvard Glee Club performing “MLK” by U2, arranged by Bob Chilcott. YPC will also showcase spirituals, including “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands,” arranged by Lynch and Noam Faingold, with the baritone also performing. Also on the program is “Naturaleza” by Núñez and “Song of Light” by Chandrika Tandon, arranged by Teese Gohl. Lynch will perform “The Negro Speaks of the Rivers” by Margaret Bonds and “Sweet Home,” as arranged by V. Simonson. The program ends with “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” arranged by Roland M. Carter.
