
Young People’s Chorus of New York City Announces Collaboration with Washington Heights Community Choir
By Francisco SalazarThe Young People’s Chorus of New York City will showcase a collaborative performance with the Washington Heights Community Choir at the upcoming screening of Steven Spielberg’s “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.”
The screening which will take place at the historic United Palace on Nov. 3 will be part of Movies at the Palace: Season of Friendship, a film series designed to bring people together through beloved films and live performances.
Before the film screening, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City and the Washington Heights Community Choir will perform a newly arranged vocal interpretation of the iconic “conversation” between humans and aliens from the movie’s climax. The piece blends voices representing a variety of races, ages, experiences, and backgrounds and the performance is meant to underscore the central message of the Season of Friendship series.
“Close Encounters of the Third Kind” stars Richard Dreyfuss, François Truffaut, and Teri Garr and will be presented in DCP format.
