By Francisco Salazar

Four First Prize Winners were announced following the Finals of the 2022 Young Concert Artists International Auditions.

The winners were mezzo-soprano Erin Wagner, bass-baritone Joseph Parrish, pianist Chaeyoung Park, and soprano and pianist Chelsea Guo.

These musicians now join the roster of Young Concert Artists, which provides management services for their tenure, concert engagements including debuts in New York and Washington, D.C., publicity, and career guidance.

The Winners Concert took place on Nov. 14  at Cary Hall at New York City’s Dimenna Center for Classical Music and was livestreamed.

The YCA Susan Wadsworth International Auditions differ from a competition, as there are no rankings, and any number of winners can be selected. The 2022 Winners were chosen from an initial pool of over 100 applicants from around the world.

In a statement, YCA President Daniel Kellogg said, “I’m so honored to share the winner’s of this year’s International Auditions with you all and welcome this group to the roster of Young Concert Artists’ incredibly gifted and aspirational artists. For over 60 years, YCA has discovered extraordinary young musicians, providing them with the support, clarity, and confidence to tell their stories, as well as with the tools, opportunities, and infrastructure to take their careers to the highest level. The International Auditions are just one vehicle for YCA to continue building on its mission and history of empowering the beyond brilliant young artist of today – to not only help put them on track for debuts in major markets like New York City and Washington DC, but to also have the experiences and skills they need to have careers of importance, so that they can truly lead us into the future of classical music.”

This year’s jury consisted of harpist Barbara Allen, cellist Colin Carr, pianists Simone Dinnerstein and Olga Kern, Carnegie Hall’s Director of Festivals & Special Projects Adriaan Fuchs, mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, violinist Ani Kavafian, YCA Chair Daniel Kellogg, flutist Demarre McGill, pianist & vocal coach Ken Noda, violinist Barry Shiffman, and YCA Founder Susan Wadsworth.
