York Early Music Festival Celebrates its 50th Edition

The U.K.’s York Early Music Festival announces its 2026 season.

I Fagiolini performs Monteverdi’s “Vespers of 1610.” Robert Hollingworth directs the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble.

The Festival’s Ensemble in Residence, [hanse]Pfeyffery, presents “Casanatense Chansonnier.”

“Siglo de oro: Music from the Spanish Renaissance” features sacred choral music by composers such as Cristóbal de Morales, and Sebastián de Vivánco, among others. The program also features the world premiere of Kerensa Briggs’s “Lead, kindly light.” Harry Christophers directs.

Cécile Walch, Karin Weston, Amy Farnell, and Julia Marty perform monodic stanzas and polyphonic songs from the late 14th and early 15th centuries in “Le Baiser de la Rose.”

The University Baroque Ensemble and Ensemble Hesperi present a program of instrumental and vocal music by Handel, Arne, and others.

Performance Date: July 7, 2026


“Da Pacem: Sacred music by Heinrich Schütz and contemporaries” is performed by Margaret Hunter, Heike Heilmann, Marine Fribourg, Bart Uvyn, Christopher Renz, Fabian Kelly, Ulfried Staber, and Hans Wijers, Andreas Küppers provides keyboard accompaniment and artistic direction.

Bethany Seymour and Matthew Brook present sacred and secular songs by Blow, Humfrey, Jeffreys, and Purcell. Peter Seymour accompanies at the harpsichord.

Helen Charlston, Paul Agnew, and lutist Sergio Bucheli give their recital, “A Gentle Air.”

“Love From Afar” is presented by Hannah Ely, Rebekah Jones, Paul Bentley-Angell, and singers from Siglo de Oro. Patrick Allies directs.

“Solomon’s Knot” is performed by Zoë Brookshaw, Stephanie Pfeffer, Kate Symonds-Joy, Nathan Mercieca, Thomas Herford, Gwilym Bowen, and Alex Ashworth. William Whitehead provides keyboard accompaniments. Jonathan Sells directs.
