Yannick Nézet-Séguin is set to conduct the 2026 Wiener Philharmoniker New Year’s concert.

The conductor will lead the orchestra in waltzes and polkas on Jan. 1, 2026, marking the first time Nézet-Séguin leads the legendary concert.

The chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic, Daniel Froschauer said, “The Vienna Philharmonic has enjoyed a close and fruitful artistic partnership with Yannick Nézet-Séguin since 2010. As music director of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, as well as principal conductor of prominent international ensembles such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, he exemplifies the genres that together make up the musical language of the Vienna Philharmonic. In choosing Yannick Nézet-Séguin we seek to fulfil our goal of working more with the younger generation of conductors.”

The artistic collaboration between Nézet-Séguin and the Wiener Philharmoniker began at the Mozart Week in Salzburg in 2010 and since then has regularly conducted the orchestra in concerts in Vienna and Salzburg, and on tour. In 2023 the conductor led the orchestra in the Summer Night Concert.
