
Works & Process to Spotlight Metropolitan Opera’s Production of ‘The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay’
By Francisco SalazarWorks & Process is set to present The Metropolitan Opera’s “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay” on Sept. 8, 2025 at Guggenheim New York in the Peter B. Lewis Theater.
The evening will showcase an advance look at the new adaptation of Michael Chabon’s Pulitzer Prize–winning novel, “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay,” which will open the Metropolitan Opera’s 2025–26 season.
The Works & Process will feature an eclectic score by composer Mason Bates that incorporates scintillating electronic elements and a variety of musical styles. Met general manager Peter Gelb will moderate a conversation with director Barlett Sher, Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and Bates and Scheer. Mezzo-soprano Sun-Ly Pierce, tenor Miles Mykkanen, and baritone Andrzej Filończyk will perform highlights from the score, then join the discussion.
“The Amazing Adventures of Cavalier & Clay” is set before the outbreak of World War II and follows two Jewish cousins who invent an anti-fascist superhero and launch their own comic book series, hoping to recruit the United States into the fight against Nazism.
