Will Liverman, Ana María Martinez, René Barbera, Mario Rojas, David Portillo Headline New Productions by Lyric Opera of Chicago for 2020-21

The Lyric Opera of Chicago has announced additional productions for its 2020-21 season.

In addition to its “Twilight: Gods” the company will present “Pasión Latina,” a free concert featuring such renowned artists as Ana María Martínez, René Barbera, David Portillo, Mario Rojas, Richard Ollarsaba, Denis Vélez, and Ricardo José Rivera. The performance will feature music from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba, Guatemala, Argentina, and Spain.

Next up is “Creating the Factotum,” which will feature Will Liverman and DJ artist K. Rico reimagining Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” for a modern-day Chicago. The work combines opera, hip-hop barbershop, gospel, funk, neo soul, and R& B. The behind-the-scenes process will be documented by Chicago filmmaker Raphael Nash.

Streaming Date: TBA 2021

Enrique Mazzola will curate a virtual recital of Italian song by such composers as Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini, and Mascagni with performances by members of the Ryan Opera Center Ensemble.
