By Francisco Salazar

The Wiener Staatsoper has extended the time that it will remain closed in an ongoing effort to help with containing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The company announced that “following the Austrian Federal government’s decision, the Wiener Staatsoper will remain closed until April 13.”

The Wiener Staatsoper originally stated that it would be closed until March 31 but due to the rapid outbreak of COVID-19, Vienna continues under restrictions limiting all public gatherings.

Austria has reported 2,388 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and six deaths.

The company added that all customers will be directly contacted by the various organizers over the next few days, if possible. Tickets for events from April 1 through 13 may be returned until 30 June 2020 against reimbursement of the purchase price. Holders of subscriptions, flexible subscription and cycles will be informed separately by the Wiener Staatsoper.
