Wiener Staatsoper Announces Two New Cast Changes for ‘Il Tabarro’ & ‘Die Frau ohne Schatten’

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced two new cast changes.

The company said that Leonardo Neiva will sing the role of Michele in “Il Tabarro” on Oct. 23 replacing Michael Volle.

Meanwhile, Tomasz Konieczny will sing the role of the Barak in “Die Frau ohne Schatten” on Oct. 24, also stepping in for Michael Volle.

These are the latest performances that Michael Volle cancels. He recently canceled performances on Oct. 20 and 21, 2023.

Leiva will once again join a cast that includes Anja Kampe, Joshua Guerrero, and Monika Bohinec. Philippe Jordan conducts the production by Tatjana Gürbaca. The performance on Oct. 23 marks the final one of the fall season. The production returns in February with Carlos Alvarez portraying Michele.

Meanwhile, Konieczny will sing alongside Andreas Schager, Elza van den Heever, Tanja Ariane Baumgartner, Clemens Unterreiner, and Elena Pankratova. Christian Thielemann conducts the production by Vincent Huguet. The performance on Oct. 24 marks the final performance of “Die Frau ohne Schatten.

Volle returns to the stage at the end of October for “The Flying Dutchman” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
