By Francisco Salazar

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced that it will reopen on May 19.

The company announced that the last six weeks of the season will feature six new productions, which have been revised to reflect the new circumstances in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Among the new productions that will open include “L’Incoronazione di Poppea,” “Faust,” “The Barber of Seville for Kids,” and “Macbeth.” The company will also showcase productions of “Tosca,” “Carmen,” “Lohengrin” “Der Rosenkavalier,” “The Abduction of the Seraglio,” and “Elektra” among others.

The news comes as Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced that the Austrian government will begin the process of gradual relaxation of COVID-19 lockdown measures on May 19, despite a worsening epidemiological situation in the state of Tyrol.
