The Wiener Staatsoper has announced that soprano Anja Kampe will not be appearing in the role of Senta in Wagner’s “Der Fliegende Holländer” for the performances on Nov. 21 & 24, 2021.

As a result, well-known dramatic soprano Ricarda Merbeth will take over the role. Merbeth has already stepped in for Kampe for the performance on Nov. 17.

Additionally, tenor Jörg Schneider will replace Eric Cutler in the role of Erik for the performance on Nov. 17, 2021. Cutler is still slated to appear in the role for performances on Nov. 21, 24, 28, and Dec. 2.

Merbeth joins a cast that includes Franz-Josef Selig as Daland, Noa Beinart as Mary, Daniel Jenz as Steuermann, and Sir Bryn Terfel in the title role. Bertrand de Billy is set to conduct a production by Christine Mielitz.

Kampe is still scheduled to sing the role of Senta on Nov. 28, and Dec. 2, 2021.
