The Wiener Staatsoper has announced that soprano Anja Kampe will not be appearing in the role of Senta in Wagner’s “Der Fliegende Holländer” for the Nov. 17, 2021 performance.

As a result, soprano Ricarda Merbeth will take over the role.

Merbeth is a well-known dramatic soprano who has performed at the Teatro alla Scala, Bayerische Staatsoper, Staatsoper Hamburg, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Royal Opera House, and Teatro Real de Madrid.

She will join a cast that includes Eric Cutler as Erik, Franz-Josef Selig as Daland, Noa Beinart as Mary, Daniel Jenz as Steuermann, and Sir Bryn Terfel in the title role. Bertrand de Billy is set to conduct a production by Christine Mielitz.

Anja Kampe is still scheduled to sing the role of Senta on Nov. 21, 24, 28, and Dec. 2, 2021.
