The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its performance of “Simon Boccanegra” on April 8.

The company announced that George Petean will sing the title role replacing Luca Salsi.

Petean has already performed the opening performance on April 6, also taking over for Salsi. He is a well-known baritone who has performed at the Royal Opera House, Hamburg State Opera, Paris Opera, Berlin State Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, and Teatro Real de Madrid, among others.

The baritone is set to perform alongside Federica Lombardi, Kwangchul Youn, Clemens Unterreiner, and Freddie De Tommaso. Marco Armiliato conducts the production by Peter Stein.

Salsi is set to return to the production for the final two performances on April 11 and 13, 2024.
