Wiener Staatsoper Announces Cast Change for ‘Manon’

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its May 13 performance of “Manon.”

The company said that Elsa Dreisig would replace Pretty Yende in the title role.

Yende took to social media and said, “Dear Friends, I’m so sorry to report that I will not be able to perform my last performance of Manon at the Wiener Staatsoper due to sustaining a very serious injury during my 2nd performance on the stage before going to sing at the Coronation. I was hoping that my injury would subside but unfortunately it’s not the case and I have to follow medical advises from my doctors and take care in order to heal as quickly as possible. I would like to send my sincerest apologies to my colleagues and the theatre deepest thanks as they were incredibly kind to me during the last performances after my injury. I hope to be well soon and resume my artistic commitments. Many thanks to the public of Vienna who were there and have been kindly asking if I’m going to be ok.”

Dreisig is set to join a cast that includes Charles Castronovo, Dan Paul Dumitrescu, Michael Arivony, and Clemens Unterreiner. Bertrand de Billy conducts.
