The Wiener Staatsoper has announced that Kate Lindsey will sing the role of Nerone replacing Virginie Verrez in an upcoming revival of “L’incoronazione di Poppea.”

Lindsey first sang the production by Jan Lauwers at the Salzburg Festival in 2018 and later premiered it at the Wiener Staatsoper in 2021. The mezzo-soprano is well known for her work in baroque and Mozart roles and has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Glyndebourne Festival, and Teatro alla Scala, among other houses. This season Lindsey is also set to perform in productions of “Don Giovanni” and “L’Orfeo” at the Wiener Staatsoper.

The mezzo will join a cast that includes Slávka Zámečníková, Xavier Sabata, Christina Bock, Willard White, and Vera-Lotte Boecker. Pablo Heras-Casado conducts.

“L’incoronazione di Poppea”  will be performed on Oct. 6, 9, 11 and 13, 2021.
