Wiener Staatsoper Announces Cast Change for ‘Die Zauberflöte’

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its first three performances of “Die Zauberflöte.”

The company noted that Hiroshi Amako will sing the role of Tamino on Sept. 7, 10, and 16 replacing the originally scheduled Pavel Petrov.

Amako has been a member of the International Opera Studio at Hamburg State Opera and has performed in such works as “Manon Lescaut,”  “Don Carlo,” “Nabucco,” and “Rigoletto,” among others. He has also performed at the Wigmore Hall and Oxford Lieder, among others.

The tenor is set to join a cast that includes Günther Groissböck, Clemens Unterreiner, Kathryn Lewek, Golda Schultz, Miriam Kutrowatz, Peter Kellner, and Robert Bartneck.

Bertrand de Billy conducts the production by Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier.
