Wiener Staatsoper Announces Cast Change for ‘Die Walküre’

By Francisco Salazar

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its May 8 performance of “Die Walküre.”

The company announced that Lise Davidsen will not sing the role of Sieglinde and will be replaced by Simone Schneider.

Davidsen also took to social media and said, “I’m to say that I won’t be singing Sieglinde in Vienna this Sunday. I went to Vienna yesterday, but I realized that I won’t be ready in time. So very frustrating but I hope I’ll be back soon.”

The cancelation comes after the soprano canceled a performance at the Metropolitan Opera and a performance with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Schneider will join a cast that includes Stuart Skelton, Dmitry Belosselskiy, John Lundgren, Simone Schneider, Nina Stemme, and Monika Bohinec. Axel Kober conducts.

Davidsen is set to return to the production for the second performance scheduled for May 22, 2022.
